In previous seasons we shared specific dates for Meetings, Skills Evaluations etc. here.
However, schedules sometimes need to change due to behind the scenes situations. (scheduling conflicts, etc)
Because of this, we no longer post fixed dates in this section.
When dates change from what families originally expect, it can cause confusion and frustration.
Instead, all official schedules and updates will be communicated directly through GameChanger.
What to Expect
β’ Rosters and coaches will be announced after registration closes.
β’ Practice schedules will be shared by coaches as well as posted on the calendar above.
β’ Game schedules and updates will be posted in GameChanger.
(Make sure you check this often)

MACHINE PITCH INTRODUCTION DIVISION
This division introduces young athletes to the game of softball in a fun, encouraging, and confidence-building environment.
Using machine pitch allows players to see consistent strikes, helping them learn proper hitting mechanics while keeping the game moving and engaging.
FOCUS AREAS
π₯ Learning how softball games work
π₯ Hitting mechanics and confidence at the plate
π₯ Throwing and catching basics
π₯ Field awareness and positioning
π₯ Running bases safely
π₯ Teamwork and sportsmanship
DEVELOPMENTAL GOALS
Players begin developing coordination, confidence, and a love for softball while gaining experience hitting pitched balls and making plays in the field.
Girls in 3rd - 4th Grade
QUICK UPDATE!
As our recreation continues to grow, we regularly evaluate how our leagues are structured to make sure players are learning, improving, and having fun. Beginning this season, our 3rd - 4th grade girls softball division will transition to machine pitch during games.
The change is designed with the overall player experience and development in mind.
The Challenge at This Age
Pitching is one of the most difficult skills in softball. At the 3rd & 4th grade level, most players are still learning the basic mechanics of throwing, fielding, and hitting.
When games rely entirely on players pitching at this age, it often leads to:
π₯ A large number of walks
π₯ Long innings with limited balls put into play
π₯ Slower Game Flow
π₯ Players spending more time standing and waiting rather than actively participating.
While learning to pitch is important, the reality is that most players at this age are not yet ready to consistently throw strikes during games.
Why Machine Pitch Helps
Using a pitching machine allows games to focus on the skills that benefit the greatest number of players right now.
Machine Pitch helps by:
π₯ Putting more balls into play, which creates more fielding opportunities.
π₯ Helping hitters develop proper swing mechanics
π₯ Keeping the game moving at a better pace.
π₯ Increasing player engagement and excitment
π₯ Reducing frustration for both pitchers and hitters
Ultimately, this format allows more players to actively participate in every inning, which is one of the most important goals of youth recreation sports.
What About Girls Who Want to Pitch?
We absolutely want to continue to encourage players who are interested in pitching.
Pitching is a specialized skill that typically develops through:
π₯ Extra Practices at Home
π₯ Private or group lessons
π₯ Dedicated Pitching Instruction
Players who want to pursue pitching are encouraged to work on those skills outside of games, and those who continue developing may have opportunities to pitch as they move into older divisions.
Pitching Development Clinic
Players interested in learning to pitch will have the opportunity to attend optional pitching clinics outside of regular team practices.
These clinics will focus on:
π₯ Pitching Mechanics and Form
π₯ Arm motion and body positioning
π₯ Accuracy and Control
π₯ Confidence in the pitching circle
Pitching development takes repetition and time, and these clinics give interested athletes the chance to begin learning this important position in a supportive enviroment.
KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR INFO.
Our Goal
Our goal in the recreation program is to:
π₯ Teach fundamental softball skills
π₯ Help players build confidence
π₯ Keep games active
π₯ Create positive experiences that keep girls playing the sport
We believe the move to machine pitch will help more players develop, stay engaged, and enjoy the game while still leaving room for players who want to advance their pitching skills.
Thank you for supporting our athletes and helping us create the best experience possible for our athletes.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT & GAME IQ
This division introduces athletes to a more advanced level of softball while continuing to emphasize skill development, teamwork and love for the game. Players begin learning the fundamentals that will prepare them for Middle School and Competitive High School Play.

π₯ Fielding ground balls and fly balls with proper technique
π₯ Hitting Mechanics and situational hitting.

In compliance with House Bill 204 - "Protection of Athletes with Head Injuries Act", North Sevier Recreation has implemented the following policy which requires adherence by all coaches, volunteers, parents, legal guardians, participants and representatives of North Sevier Recreation, Salina City, Aurora City and Redmond Town.
A Concussion is a brain injury, and all brain injuries are serious.
Β· They are caused by a bump, blow, or hit to the head or by a blow to another part of the body with the force transmitted to the head.
Β· They can range from mild to severe and can disrupt the way the brain normally works.
Even though most concussions are mild, all concussions are potentially serious and may result in complications including prolonged brain damage and even death if not recognized and managed properly.
Even a slight bump on the head can be serious.
Symptoms and signs of concussions may show up right after the injury or can take several hours or days to completely appear.
If an athlete reports any symptoms of a concussion or if you notice the symptoms of concussion yourself, seek medical attention right away.
It is difficult to detect a concussion and most sports concussions occur without loss of conciousness.
Participating in a sporting event after a concussion can leave an athlete vulnerable to a greater injury or death.
There is an increased risk of significant damage from a concussion for a period of time after the concussion occurs, particularly if the athlete suffers another concussion before completely recovering from the first. This can lead to prolonged recovery, or even severe brain swelling with devastating and even fatal consequences.
Concussion Action Plan
What should a parent and/or guardian do when a concussion is suspected?
Β· Report the suspicion to the coach and North Sevier Recreation Director:

Β· Have double or blurry vision
Β· Vomit or feel sick to your stomach
Β· Have trouble focusing or problem remembering
Β· Feel more emotional or "down"
Β· Feel Confused
Β· Have Problems with Sleep
- Concussions feel different to each person, so its important to tell your coach and Recreational Director how your athlete feels.
- When in doubt remove the athlete from play.
Β· Ensure that the athlete is evaluated right away:
- DO NOT try to judge the severity yourself, get assistance from a qualified Heath Care Professional as soon as possible.
Β· Allow the athlete to return to play only with permission from a qualified Health Care Professional.
- Repeated concussions prior to recovery can increase the likelihood of further problems.
- No Participant should return to play or practice on the same day a concussion has been diagnosed.
- A letter from your doctor is mandatory to return to play.
Β· Both Coach and Parent should record the following:
- The cause of the head injury and with what force
- Any loss of consciousness and for how long
- Any memory loss immediately after the injury
- Any seizures immediately after the injury
- Any other pertinent information you may think will help the Heath Care Provider
